It’s no secret: I freaking LOVE indie authors! That’s why I’m honoured to be a part of the #IndieCredible2013 blog tour. Today, I have the fabulous Tawdra Kindle on my visiting. In tribute to my love of food (or, at least, I think that’s how we got on to the topic!) I have a tale of cooking disaster, featuring her two lead characters from The Posse. And, if you’re anything like me, I’m, sure you’ll agree that this sounds like one to add to the ‘to-read’ list! Enjoy 🙂
The sound of the waves crashing outside woke Jude as the sun peeked its first rays around the bedroom curtains. She blinked, disoriented, and it took a few moments to remember where she was.
Logan’s house. Which now, of course, was also her house. She’d lived here for nearly two months, but this was her first morning waking up in his house as his wife.
Logan’s arms were around her, and Jude ran a finger lightly across his hand, smiling as she thought of the night before and the particular skill of these hands. Being a newlywed—even at her advanced age—was turning out to be fun.
He grunted as she wriggled out of bed, but his eyes remained closed. Jude dug through the suitcases they’d dropped at the foot of the bed last night and found sweats and a t-shirt. Autumn had arrived at the beach, and there was the slightest chill in the air.
She slipped downstairs into the kitchen. They had been away for nearly two weeks on their honeymoon, so the milk and eggs still in the fridge wouldn’t be good. She poked around and grinned; she might have known the posse wouldn’t let her down. Brand new perishables sat on the shelves. Breakfast could happen.
Jude could mix up basic pancakes in her sleep, but she decided to add a little flair to these. She had just heated the built-in griddle and was getting ready to pour the batter when an arm snaked around her middle.
“Good morning, beautiful.”
She jumped and dropped the spatula. “Good God, Logan, you scared the life out of me!”
He only laughed and pulled her closer, his lips finding the crook of her neck. “What can I say? I’m stealthy.”
Jude’s breath caught as his mouth nibbled lower. She poured six pancakes and then turned within his arms.
“Did you sleep well?” She clasped her hands at the back of his head.
“What do you think? Back home again after the most amazing honeymoon a man could want. . .with the hottest wife. . .yeah, I slept good.” He dropped his lips to cover hers, and when she snuggled closer, he deepened the kiss and moved his hands lower, pulling her tight.
Jude’s heart pounded. She moaned against his mouth and slipped her hands under his t-shirt. Logan’s back was hard and warm, and she let her fingers trail lower, to the waistband of his shorts.
Logan growled. He grabbed her backside and swung them around, lifting Jude so that she sat on the countertop. He stood between her legs and let his hands roam as his mouth continued to plunder hers.
Jude was lost in sensation, focused on nothing but her husband and his smoking hot. . .
Jude pulled back and shrieked. “Logan! Our pancakes!”
On the griddle, six blackened circles spewed smoke. Jude grabbed the spatula from the floor and slid them all into the sink. Logan waved his hands, trying to clear the air.
“I can’t believe it. I have never, ever, burnt pancakes in my life. I’ve never burnt any food in all my years at the Tide.”
Logan quirked an eyebrow. “You’ve never had me distracting you.” He pulled her to him again. “C’mon, let’s go back upstairs.”
“But what about breakfast?” Jude cast one look back at the burnt pancakes.
“Don’t worry about it. My wife owns a restaurant on the beach. We’ll get something to eat there. Later.” He scooped Jude into his arms and headed for the steps.
AND THEN! Because Tawdra is just that awesome, she’s sharing with us the recipe for Jude’s Special Ricotta Pancakes with Guava Sauce. Excuse me while I go hunt down some coconut…
Jude’s Special Ricotta Pancakes with Guava Sauce
¾ cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
3 tbs honey
1/3 cup milk
1/3 cup coconut oil
1 cup ricotta cheese
Juice of one lemon
Mix together flour and baking powder. In a separate bowl, combine all wet ingredients; immediately add to flour mixture. Pour onto hot griddle in ¼ cup increments. Cook until golden brown, flipping once.
1 cup guava jelly
2 TBS water
Heat jelly in a saucepan on low heat until melted and liquid. Add water as needed for desired consistency. Cool only slightly and serve with pancakes.
About The Posse
One woman, three men, and a beach romance as unpredictable as the riptide. . .
Being a widow at the age of forty-four was never in Jude Hawthorne’s plans. After her husband’s death, she’s left with her family’s beach restaurant and two nearly-grown children. The last thing she’s looking for is another chance at love.
However, if her husband’s best friends, the Posse, have anything to say about it, love is just what she’s going to get. The Posse is determined to take care of Jude, and when they decide the best way to do that is for one of them to sweep her off her feet, three begin to vie for her affections. But only one can reach her heart.
In a story of friendship, loss and second chances, Jude will learn her life is far from being over.
