Wishing & Hoping [Three Wishes Blog Blitz]

Today I’m participating in the Three Wishes Blog Blitz, hosted by author Juliet Madison. Why is it called the Three Wishes Blog Blitz? Juliet’s new  romantic comedy release, I Dream of Johnny, is about three wishes, a high-tech genie in a lamp, and one very unfortunate typo that proves magic isn’t all it cracked up to be…

WISHING & HOPING

As a part of this tour, we all get to post about wishes. As a long-time Aladdin lover, this idea definitely appealed to me! Oh, wishes 🙂 Who doesn’t have ’em?

My upcoming novel, Finding Home, is out on October 1. It’s a Young Adult Contemporary title, so in the spirit of three wishes, I thought I’d do three wishes from the lead character in the book, Amy.

1. I wish for love. I thought the first time you fell in love, the first time you had sex, it was supposed to be romantic. I’ve read the books; I’ve seen the movies. There’s supposed to be candles, and lacy lingerie, and violins playing that sweep into a gorgeous crescendo when you, well, you know, orgasm.
Only, I didn’t.
And no one ever told me about getting grass burn on your bum.

2. I wish for a normal Dad. I know, it was Father’s Day in Australia yesterday, so now’s not a ‘good time’, but seriously, can’t I just have a normal Dad like everyone else? Or, if he has to be a famous musician, can’t he at least be cool? There’s nothing glamourous about a middle-aged man wearing jeans that are way too tight with his shirt undone a little too far.
I guess the only good thing about pop sensation Stevie D is his limitless rider. Alcohol has never been easier.
And the cute boys who help load his gear after the show. The booze and the boys combined? Well, they almost make the pop star part okay.

No one told me about the grass burn. No. One.

3. I wish for a holiday with Mum. When I was a kid, like real little, Mum and I used to go on holidays all the time up north to stay with Aunt Lou. They are total opposites–Lou is such a downer compared to Mum.  Still, it was always fun playing on the beach there. Mum used to say we’d go stay with Lou for a while, just me and her. It’d be our chance to get away from Dad and that damn tour bus. We’d be together, without him, one broken, happy family.
Then Mum stopped breathing.
And now we’ll never be whole again.
